“How to Fix a Slow Computer and Improve Computer Performance”. With so much technology available today, it’s hard to imagine life without a computer. We use our computers for work, education, entertainment, and socializing.
But we sometimes take our computers for granted and don’t realize that they can break down at any time. When your computer is running slowly, there are many ways you can fix the problem.
Here’s how to do computer repair and improve computer performance.
Run Disk Defragmenter.
When you use your computer, files can become fragmented and spread out across your hard drive rather than being stored in one location.
This causes your computer to have to jump around and find the information it needs.
Running a disk defragmenter can put the files back into order, which will result in faster performance.
You should run a disk defragmenter every few months to ensure your computer runs at its best.
Uninstall Unused Programs.
If you are running a lot of programs on your computer, your computer may be overworked. It’s a good idea to go through all of the programs that are installed on your computer and uninstall those that you don’t use. You can easily uninstall programs using the Control Panel.
Delete Temporary Files.
Your computer has a cache and a temporary files folder for when you print or access the Internet.
If your computer has been running for a long time, it may be full of unnecessary temporary files that are taking up a lot of space.
However, you can delete these files yourself without the need to call a technician. Delete those files by going to your My Documents folder and then clicking on Local Disk (C:).
Once you are in Local Disk (C:), there will be a folder called Temporary Internet Files. Click on this folder and delete everything inside of it.
Then, go to My Documents again and click on Local Disk (C). This time, you will find a folder called Temporary Files. Delete everything inside this folder.
Defragment Your Hard Drive
If your computer is taking a long time to load programs or your computer is running slow, it may be because your hard drive has become fragmented.
To fix this problem, you can use the built-in defragmentation tool that comes with Windows. To do this, go to your Start Menu, right-click on My Computer, and click Properties.
Once you are here, click on the Tools tab and then click on Defragment Now. This will defragment your hard drive which will make your computer run faster and more efficiently.
Close Unnecessary Programs
If you are using your computer for only one program, it is best to close all other programs before you start using that program.
If you are using many programs at the same time on your computer, you should close all unnecessary programs.
For example, if you are using Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer at the same time, you should close Internet Explorer because it will only slow down your computer while you are working in Word.
Clean Your Keyboard and Mouse
If your keyboard and mouse are dirty, they can become sticky. This will cause some keys to stick or not work at all.
To clean your keyboard and mouse, turn off your computer and unplug it from the wall. Then, use a can of compressed air (found at any office supply store) to blow out the dirt.
Clear Your Internet Cache
You can clear your Internet cache by going to Tools and then clicking on Internet Options. Once you are here, click the General tab, and then click on Browsing History. Then, click on Clear History.
